Starehe Girls Centre launches ICT lab, website

Starehe Girls Centre has launched an ICT lab which will help both continuing students and former students learn IT skills, business and other technology course. The Directorate of e-Government helped the school set up their website, www.starehegirlscentre.ac.ke.

Nakuru holds Local Authorities e-services seminar

A two-day seminar on how Local Authorities (LA) can use Information and Communication Technologies, ICTs, to improve services is underway in Nakuru. The meeting which brings together participants from mainly Nakuru, Makueni and Eldama Ravine municipal and county council is organized by Kenya ICT Federation (KIF) and the Directorate of e-government.

Laws for Electronic Transactions are now in place, in the Constitution, KCA Act No. 1 of 2009, Part VIA. This law seeks to facilitate the development of Information and Communications and Electronic Commerce. Click here to download the full Act.

By using ICTs and the Internet, e-Government is:
  1. Improving efficiency: Mass processing tasks, data collection and transmission, communication with customers, greater sharing of data within and between governments
  2. Improving Government services: Online services are build with understanding of user requirements, seamless services for one-government interface, multi-channel service delivery
  3. Helping achieve specific policy outcomes: There’s more sharing of information to improve collection of taxes, better use of health services, better matching of unemployed and vacancies, etc.
  4. Contributing to Vision 2030 economic policy objectives: There are improvements in business productivity, effective government programmes, promoting e-Commerce, government consumption of ICT goods, etc.
  5. Contributing to the reform: Enabling public reform through transparency, simplification, information sharing, enabling seamless government, etc.
  6. Helping build trust between government and citizens: Enabling citizen engagement in the policy process, preventing corruption, promoting accountability and openness, etc.
