Government has an email solution for all Civil Servants, EMACS (Enterprise Messaging And Collaboration System) which is intended to improve cross-ministry/agency communication. Public sector organizations (at all levels) continue to face challenges with inter- and intra-agency communications – from emergency preparedness and management to budgeting and basic health and human services. The solution to these challenges is: improved collaborative work processes and streamlined sharing of information across public sector entities.
With disparate departmental messaging systems and use of different IT platforms (which prevents sharing of records, documents and materials) most public sector organizations are in urgent need of an enterprise wide collaboration strategy.
The Presidency and Cabinet Affairs Office through the Directorate of e-Government and IBM joined forces to create a solution to address cross-organizational communication challenges. The result was Enterprise and Messaging and Collaboration System, a business solution that securely delivers better performance and reliability.
This unique solution, the first of its kind offered to the public sector, is completely hosted by the Directorate of e-Government. EMACS includes the following features which have made the whole project successful; E-mail, calendar and scheduling, personal information management (PIM) directory functions, discussion databases, teamrooms, and reference databases (document library) with basic workflow.
Some of the highlights and benefits of the system are:
- Improve internal and external collaboration
- Increase employee productivity,
- Deliver 99.8 percent availability service-level with 24x7 monitoring
- Enable flexible choices for messaging services
- Enhance security with virus and anti-spam protection, content filtering and daily backup
